A small school offering a unique Catholic experience.

Welcome to Aberdeen Roncalli Middle and High School, where faith, academic excellence, and a strong sense of community come together to help every student thrive. Rooted in Catholic tradition, we provide a welcoming, Christ-centered environment where students are known, valued, and encouraged to grow in mind, body, and spirit.

From athletics and fine arts to clubs, activities, and leadership opportunities, every student has the chance to discover their gifts and pursue their passions.

Because our school community is intentionally close-knit, students benefit from meaningful relationships with teachers, classmates, and mentors who truly know and care about them. It's a place where every child belongs, every family is welcomed, and every student is prepared for success in college, career, and a life of faith and service.

Congregation at church

Defined by Faith

Faith is at the heart of everything we do. Each day, our students grow in their relationship with Christ through religion classes, daily prayer, and weekly school-wide Mass and Eucharistic Adoration.

Our students are also blessed to have a dedicated school chaplain, Fr. Miller, who is a daily presence on campus. Whether celebrating the sacraments, visiting classrooms, offering guidance, or simply spending time with students, Fr. Miller helps make our Catholic faith a living part of everyday school life.

As a ministry of Sacred Heart and St. Mary's Parishes in Aberdeen and under the auspices of the Diocese of Sioux Falls, faith isn't simply one subject we teach—it is the foundation of every Roncalli education.

Volunteerism, Retreats and Ministry

Service is an important part of a Roncalli education. Students are encouraged to put their faith into action by completing age-appropriate service hours each year. These experiences are divided between serving the Church and serving the broader community, helping students develop a lifelong commitment to compassion, generosity, and servant leadership.

Retreats are another cornerstone of spiritual growth at Roncalli Middle School and High School. Each grade participates in a class retreat designed to strengthen faith, build meaningful relationships, and provide time for prayer, reflection, and personal growth.

Our campus also features a dedicated Campus Ministry space where students are always welcome. Whether they need a quiet place to pray, someone to talk with, or simply a supportive community, this space reflects our commitment to caring for each student's spiritual and personal well-being.

All about Academics

Dual Credit Courses

One of the best ways to save money on a college education is to start earning college credits while still in high school. At Roncalli, our dual credit courses help students get a head start on degrees at South Dakota colleges, universities, and technical schools. In fact, 87% of our 2026 graduates earned dual credit, giving them a significant jump on their freshman year while saving time and tuition.

ACT Scores

Our students consistently perform above local, state, and national averages, reflecting the strong academic foundation they build at Roncalli. Year after year, these results demonstrate our commitment to preparing students for success in college, careers, and beyond.

Laptops

Every student in grades 6–12 receives a Chromebook to support learning, research, collaboration, and creativity. We believe technology is a valuable educational tool, but it is thoughtfully balanced with proven teaching methods, meaningful classroom discussion, hands-on learning, and timeless educational practices.

STREAM

Education at Roncalli goes beyond traditional STEM. Our STREAM approach combines Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics to help students grow academically, creatively, and spiritually. We believe preparing students for the future means developing both strong minds and strong character, with Christ at the center of all we do.

Students in grades 6–12 also have access to our dedicated STREAM Lab, where they can pursue hands-on projects and explore areas that match their interests. Whether designing, building, coding, creating, or collaborating, students have the freedom to learn through meaningful experiences that inspire curiosity and innovation.

Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteers are the backbone of the ACSS. Whether it’s in the classroom, on the athletic field, or at a fundraising event, Roncalli relies on volunteers to help us do what we do. Parents are our most frequent volunteers, and we have many opportunities for them to help.
