The Athena award, presented annually by the Aberdeen Area Chamber of Commerce, honors a person who has opened up leadership opportunities for women, achieved professional excellence and serves the community. Stacy Levsen, Dean of the Aberdeen Catholic School System has spent more than 35 years as an educator. She has lived in Aberdeen since 1967, and has also served as a classroom teacher and principal at public and Catholic schools.
Levsen was the first female athletic director in South Dakota, holding that position jointly with assistant principal at Roncalli Jr/Sr. High School. She helped bring Women in Science programs to Aberdeen Schools. She also implemented alcohol and drug prevention programs.
"The Presentation Sisters in Aberdeen have influenced my career, particularly in their commitment to seek out and fill unmet needs." said Levsen.
Levsen has also served on several local an dstate educational and community boards.
