West Publications Scholarship-$500-Must have a GPA of 2.5---Essay
component: Write 600-1000 words about a personal encounter you
or someone you know had with drugs or alcohol abuse, how it was
dealt with, and in your opinion, what was right or wrong about the
way the incident or problem was handled. Criteria for the
winning essay are the same as an essay written for a typical high
school English class, ie: thought content, thesis statement,

Vocabulary Championship: up to $100,000--The National
Vocabulary Championship promotes the value of an enhanced vocabulary
to teens across the country by providing free Princeton Review study
resources and holding live game show-style events that award

Davis-Bahcall
Scholarship--- a one-of-a-kind opportunity for South Dakota students
who love science. Recipients study at the Sanford Lab at Homestake
in Lead, S.D., the Gran Sasso National Underground Laboratory in
Italy, and Princeton University in New Jersey. Students are
accompanied by a chaperone. Up to 10 students will be chosen
to receive scholarships that cover tuition, room and board, and
travel for the summer-study program. A total of $25,000 in

Insuring A Brighter Tomorrow Program: Provides twenty-five
$1,000 scholarships to South Dakota high school seniors who plan to
continue post-secondary education at a college, university, or
technical school in South Dakota. It is funded with support from
Farmers Union Insurance and Farmers Union Insurance agents in South
Dakota. Scholarship awards are open to current policyholders
of Farmers Union Insurance, members of the South Dakota Farmers
Union, Friends of the South Dakota Farmers Union Foundation or
participants in any South Dakota High School Activity Association (SDHSAA)
activity. "Friends" of the Foundation are defined as families who
have contributed $25 or more to the Foundation during the past year.
Scholarships will be awarded on the basis of academic records;
volunteer activities in school and/or community and financial need.
Applications are available from the South Dakota Farmers Union
Foundation's website, www.sdfufoundation.org, or from local
Farmers Union Insurance agents. Deadline: May 15th,
