Introduce/review art and artists of the Northern European Renaissance: Jan Van Eyck, Pieter Breughel, Albrect Durer, and H. Bosch. Note invention of oil paints, introduction of symbols into art, and focus on surfaces rather than structure.

Introduce scratchboard drawing and linoleum block printmaking processes; look at examples. Students will complete an artwork using simulated textures in their choice of those two media.
