Go over Christmas music

Unit 2 Lesson #3 (pp. 72-75)
Focus: Form

          1) Get Set: Follow Lesson
                   - Noticing Repeated patterns                      
                             ~ students will look around the room and find repeated patterns

          2) Develop: Follow Lesson
                   - Introduce “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho” (CD2:11)
                             ~ students will read/talk about Jericho and listen to “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho”
                             ~ students will review coda (p. 15) and locate the coda
                             ~ students will locate find the two main sections of the song and answer the questions on p 72
                             ~ sing “Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho”
                   - Use movement to show the form of “Joshua Fit the Battle”
                             ~ in small groups, students will create contrasting movements for the refrain and verse

          3) Apply: Follow Lesson
                   - Introduce “Alla turca” (CD2:12)
                             ~ students will read about the composition and rondo form on p 74
                             ~ students will play the rhythms on p 74 using rhythm sticks
                             ~ students will listen to “Alla turca” and follow the listening map on p 75, noting especially the coda

          4) Close: Follow Lesson
                             ~ students will play the rhythm pattern of p 74 with the recording of “Alla turca”
