UPPERCLASS ASSIGNMENTS

Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors, Seniors

2008-2009

 SPECIFICS

 ·        Students can earn up to 30 points by fulfilling one of the following.  One 30 point assignment must be completed for each nine week period.  Third quarter requirements are fulfilled with Small Group Contest Participation.

 ·        Any assignment completed after the due date will automatically receive half of its full value of points.  No exceptions.  In other words, plan accordingly....NOW.

 ·        Assignments may be accumulated.  For example, if a student completes two assignments during a quarter, the student may use the second assignment for a future quarter.

 ·        This is a big part of your grade.  Do not take it lightly.  I guarantee you will be happier with your grade if you adequately and timely complete this assignment!

 ·        If it is discovered that you have lied, cheated, falsified, etc. in any way with the completion of this assignment, you will automatically receive a zero.  No questions asked.  I will not tolerate cheating.

 ·        If you have questions, ask.

 DUE DATES

FIRST QUARTER:  August 21 - October 24

DUE BY: Friday, October 24, 1^st Hour

to possibly receive full credit.

 SECOND QUARTER:  October 27 - January 9

DUE BY:  Friday, January 9, 1^st Hour

to possibly receive full credit.

FOURTH QUARTER:  March 18 - May 22

IDEAS THAT CAN BE USED FOR ANY 30 POINT ASSIGNMENT

1. Participation in any of our fundraisers or uniform distribution
2. Performance on band instrument at Mass
3. Attendance at a musical activity -- musicals, concerts, recitals, etc. not put on by Roncalli Junior & Senior High School Band.  Roncalli Elementary, NSU and the public schools sponsor numerous concerts, but you must plan ahead!

                        *  A one page legibly written review will be required to receive full points.  Included will be who performed, where the performance was held, when it was held, what musical selections were performed, what instruments/vocals were included, and the student's opinion of the performance and why.  Attached will be the program from the performance and the purple review sheet.

4. Office work (if available and approved by Mrs. Carda)
5. Good Luck Poster(s) (as needed by Mrs. Carda)
6. Bulletin Board of Musical Value (if approved by Mrs. Carda)

FIRST QUARTER ONLY IDEAS

   1.  Participation in University/Community Band (if approved by Mrs. Carda, full points given only with good attendance and preparation)

                        *  This group meets at NSU on various Monday evenings in preparation for a December concert.  If you are interested in participating, see Mrs. Carda right away for specific information.

                        * * Given good attendance and preparation, University/Community Band will count for both the 1st and 2nd nine weeks’ assignment.

   2.  Flag Member

   3.  Magazine Sales Fundraiser -- Specifics will be decided during band.

                        * Preparation must begin now to have a realistic chance of acceptance.  See Mrs. Carda for an information and guideline sheet if you do not already have one.

2. Jazz Band Membership (Full points given only with good attendance and participation)
