How membership/participation is determined: One requirement is at
least a 3.5 cumulative GPA. By its constitution, selection to National Honor
Society is a privilege. Students provide the faculty council with information to
be used to support the student's candidacy for membership. The faculty council is
an anonymous five-member panel which bases selection on outstanding scholarship,
character, leadership and service, These are the criteria set forth by the NHS
constitution.
Special restrictions: Students who are under review for NHS must have upheld
the school code of conduct and handbook. Violation of criminal law or
school regulations may result in dismissal of a student. These violations include,
but are not limited to, DUI, theft, destruction of property, cheating, truancy or any
alcohol, tobacco or other drug violation. However, if a student has a prior violation
and has made a change in his/her behavior and has remained violation-free
for one year, the student may re-apply for membership.
